Tip Of The Week

Want to line dry without the public view of your undergarments? Hang your silk or regular undergarments in a pillow case on the line. It allows for the same environmental drying, while avoiding direct sunlight to sensitive materials. It also helps your privacy!

Retail Companies Going Green?

When we look at retail companies, we see large corporations making millions of articles of clothing a week and using up many valuable resources and consuming energy. However, many retail companies are beginning to change, following the movement towards environmentally friendly clothing processes such as washing and drying. The Levi Strauss & Co, for example, is holding a “Care to Air” contest, with the prize being $10,000 for the most creative idea of reinventing the clothesline. The company launched the campaign hoping to make air-drying more viable to its customers. Impact on the climate change is the ultimate goal of Levi Strauss & Co. Submissions can be made online and then voted on by the public, every country is welcome. The final five contestants will be judged in San Francisco by a group of eco-inventors, and the winner will be awarded the prize money. Hopefully this is a glimpse of things to come from the retail and corporate world!

The Dirty Laundry of Sports Tournaments

With the famous French Open in progress, 265 players arrived in Paris, meaning that 4,500 pieces of player’s clothes were sent to be washed. A company called Magic Rambo has been called on to manage the laundry services for the tournament. Originally used to serve the Disneyland Paris, Rambo handles the laundry of the players, coaches, and the rare family member’s items. It’s a day long laundry task that lasts for a couple of weeks. On an average tournament night only, Magic Rambo will wash 2,000 articles of player clothing. That is a lot of dryer use. Just something to think about. The French Open is such a large tournament that this catches our attention. There are companies such as hotels that go through this laundry process everyday of the year. If only there was a more environmentally friendly way to go about it!
